God’s Triple Play
By Charlie Hartwell - 2005
(E) Well
the only triple play, I have ever seen on grass
House that Ruth Built, 88 opening day
It was (A) third base to second with a
relay onto first
G-Man to (B7) Lombo, to Hrbek in the 8th
(E)
But the best triple play, I have ever
seen on earth
Was from an Old Town up at a secret little lake
It had been gray for three days, clouds moving high across the sky
Having a fine time, but our souls were in an ache
Chorus
We called it (A) “Stretch to the
Island to Haven”
God’s triple play in light of sun across the (E)
bay
(B7) Viola pitched a curve, outs at three
bases, in the Bronx
But the (A) Lord served up a symphony
that (E) day
As we passed Twin Towers
Rock, me and Stretch saw a sun spot
Stream of yellow light, beaming from the clouds
On the shore called Stevo’s Stretch,, Aspen leaves orange light
did catch
Made us high, raised our eyebrows
When the sun passed from the spot named
for the man up in the bow
It moved to light the isle where White Pines grow
Then it moved across the waves again to my home called Hartwell’s
Haven
Dark pine turned bright with orange and yellow
Chorus
You never know how days of gray affect
you
Until the day you see that blue again above
When we saw God’s Triple Play, travelers raised, we shouted hey
He made the sun fall on three places that we love
Chorus
